Everything you need to know about AIR
General
AIR (Augmented Information Retrieval) is an AI-powered search engine for your document library. It lets your team ask questions in plain language and get answers with inline citations to the source documents and pages. AIR is built by Capital Reasoning Solutions, based in Victoria, BC.
Unlike general-purpose AI assistants, AIR only answers from your documents — it won't make things up or pull from the internet. Every answer includes citations to the exact source document and page number, so you can verify every claim. If AIR can't find the answer in your documents, it says so.
AIR currently supports PDF, DOCX, TXT, HTML, XML, and Markdown files. PDF is the most common format used by our customers. Support for additional formats is on our roadmap.
AIR is designed for any team that works with large document libraries — engineering specs, regulatory standards, project reports, equipment manuals, legal filings, policy documents, and more.
Getting Started
Choose a plan on our pricing page, complete checkout, and your AIR instance will be provisioned within a few minutes. You will receive a link to your instance and can start uploading documents immediately.
For cloud plans, your instance is typically ready within 5 minutes of completing checkout. For on-premises deployments, setup usually takes 1–2 weeks depending on your infrastructure.
Once your instance is running, log in and use the document upload interface. You can drag and drop files or select them from your computer. AIR will automatically index each document.
Each plan has a page limit (not a document limit). The Starter plan includes 10,000 pages and the Pro plan includes 100,000 pages. You can upload as many documents as you like, as long as the total page count stays within your plan limit.
Billing
Yes — paid plans (Starter and Pro) include a 14-day free trial with full access. We also offer a permanently free plan with 1 user, 100 pages, and 5 queries per day — no credit card required.
The Free plan includes 1 user, up to 100 indexed pages, 5 queries per day, hybrid search (semantic + keyword), and inline citations with page numbers. It's free forever with no credit card required. You can upgrade to Starter or Pro at any time for more capacity and features like Max Mode deep search.
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your customer portal. Price differences are pro-rated.
Your instance continues on the Free plan with reduced limits (1 user, 100 pages, 5 queries/day). Your data is preserved but new uploads are paused if you exceed the limits. You can upgrade again at any time.
We accept all major credit cards via Stripe. For enterprise and on-premises deployments, additional payment options are available — contact us for details.
Security
For cloud plans, your data is stored on our bare-metal servers in Canada. Your documents and search data are isolated in a dedicated instance — no other customer can access your data. For on-premises plans, everything stays on your own hardware.
No. AIR runs a self-hosted 20-billion parameter language model. Your documents and queries are never sent to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or any external AI provider. All processing happens on infrastructure we control (cloud plans) or on your own servers (on-premises plans).
Yes. AIR On-Premises can be deployed in fully air-gapped environments with no internet connectivity. All components — the language model, vector database, and application server — run locally.
Technical
AIR uses a 20-billion parameter language model that is self-hosted and purpose-tuned for document comprehension.
Hybrid search combines two approaches: semantic search (which understands the meaning of your query) and keyword search (which matches exact terms). This means AIR can find results whether you search by concept or by specific part number, code, or acronym.
Max Mode is an deep-search feature that forces AIR to always runs the maximum number of search iterations. It takes longer but produces more thorough answers for vague questions.
A typical query returns a fully cited answer in under 20 seconds. More complex questions — especially in Max Mode — may take longer, sometimes up to a few minutes, depending on how deep AIR needs to search your document library.
